FRANKTON CARNIVAL.

KEEN RIVALRY SHOWN. QUEENS WELL SUPPORTED. Only a fortnight remains before the Frankton Queen Carnival, to assist the funds of St. George’s Church, closes. The committees are working with amazing energy to get their Queen at the head of the list, but the issue will be in doubt until Monday, August 4. At present the Frankton West Queen, Miss M. Nelson, who is fighting a keen battle With Miss A. Finlay for the honour of representing the suburban section, is leading. She is followed closely by Miss C. Buckland, the Sports Queen, and as the committee of the sports section has arranged a very full programme for this week, a change in the leading position is anticipated. The Country Queen, Miss M. Carpenter, is third. In spite of a bad beginning, the country people 1 have rallied round and are working val'iantly, with considerable success. Then* comes the Business Queen, Miss Jean Gilflllan. The business committee is “lying low,” but there is no knowing their reserve strength. The carnival closes at noon on Monday, August 4, .and all money 'must be in the hands of the secretary, Mr R. W. Bennett, not later than then. The result of the carnival will be announced that night at a dance, organised by the executive in the Town Hall, Frankton.

Autographed Footballs. A feature of the carnival is the splendid spirit in which it is being run. The sports committee has acquired a football autographed by every member of the British Rugby touring team. As this team is the only one that has succeeded -in defeating the All Blacks in New Zealand soil,.this ball will be of considerable value to the person who wins it. Ail particulars are given at the shop of Mr G. S. Anchor, of Radio House, where the ball is on view. The Business Queen’s committee has also received a ball auto-graphed by the All Blacks who took part in that memorable first test in Dunedin. The position of the Queens is indicated by flags flying from the Times building.
