ON FIRE IN MID-OCEAN.
LOSS OF GERMAN STEAMER. PASSENGERS AND CREW SAVED. RANGITATA TO THE RESCUE. Urrited Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received July 19, 10.30 a.m.> BERLIN, July 18. The owners have been advised that the steamer Tagris was destroyed by fire in mid-Atlantic, east of Bermuda. The Rangitata rescued the whole of the passengers and crew. The Rangitata, w'hen homeward bound from New Zealand, sighted the German steamer she was on fire in three holds, the coal bunker, the en-gine-room and boiler-room. The Rangitata hastened to the rescue and stood by at the captain’s request until the 'Targis filled and sank.
