“Pilfering of fruit in the market constituting ullage, should be stopped,” said Mr J. Ranson, president of the Wellington Retail Fruit Traders’ Association, when addressing delegates at the New Zealand Fruit Growers’ Federation’s Conference. “It is a source of annoyance to larger buyers, and a loss to grower and retailer. The practice of walking, standing and sitting on cases and packages offered for sale, should also he eliminated. It often seriously damages contents, and is a menace to public heallh.”
