DOMINION TOURNAMENT. . TO BE PLAYED IN JANUARY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Council opened this morning, Mr 11. B. Cakey (Christchurch) presiding.; There was considerable discussion on a New Plymouth proposal that at the Dominion Tourney next year rinlcs only he 1 played; that there be a full week; that sectional play be on the two-life principle, and that separate singles and doubles tournaments be played in the North and South Islands, the winners of which should meet at the Dominion Tourney. Mr R. N. Pilkington (Hamilton) in supporting the proposal, said the Dominion Tourney as at present conducted was a test of endurance. Other remits on the same subject were also considered,, and it was decided that the next Dominion Tourney start on January 12; that the first two days he devoted to singles, the second to pairs; that the rinks tourney follow, and that three games per day he played. THE DOMINION ASSOCIATION. THE ANNUAL MEETING. AUCKLAND, Thursday. The annual meeting of the council of the Dominion Bowling Association was held yesterday, Mr 11. B. Oakey, of Christchurch, presiding. Matters concerning the conduct of the next Dominion tournament were discussed at length. The subject was introduced by Mr Smart in the following motion: —"That at the next tournament rinks only be played; that there be a full week of section play, the winners to go forward on the twolife principle; that separate champion singles . and pairs tournaments be played in both the North and South Islands, the winners to meet in the Dominion tournament. After discussion, it was resolved to discuss at a later date Mr Smart’s suggestions with those of Mr Good, who held that a change In the dale of the tournament, the system of play, and the effect of other tournaments, should be considered. Data of Dominion Tournament. A motion that the next Dominion tournament, which is to be played in Auckland, should commence on January 12, 1931, was carried. Mr Thomson remarked that if the tournament were held in February many bowlers would still go to Rotorua. In accordance with a recommendation by Mr Kershaw, single games are to he played first, pairs second, and rinks last. Preference of post section play is to be given to rinks. It was finally decided to play three games daily at the forthcoming tournament. . It, was resolved that the time limits for play should be li hours for singles, 2| hours for pairs, and three hours for rinks, and that the entrance fees should be the same as in previous years. The Auckland Centre’s suggestion that the rules of the association be altered so as to provide members attending the first meeting of each newly-elected council w,ith £1 per day allowance, was adopted. Previously members were entitled to the payrqent of travelling expenses only. Team To Go To Brisbane. It was decided' to accept an invitation to send a New Zealand team to Brisbane to take part in a bowling carnival there next year. The number of rinks was left to the executive to decide. There are now 324 registered clubs throughout the Dominion. The total membership is 16,313, an increase of 227 during the year.
