PROTEST AGAINST DISMISSALS. “A MONSTROUS POSITION.” CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Members of the City Council made a strong protest this evening against the Government’s action in dismissing more men from the Addington railway workshops. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., said the Government was adding to the council’s difficulty by dismissing another batch of men at Addington. It was a monstrous position. Another 30 to 35 men had received notice that evening. FINDING OTHER WORK. PROBLEM BEING CONSIDERED. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, has advised Mr W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manakau, that the problem of finding other employment for the men who have received notice of dismissal from the Otahuhu railway workshops is being considered.
