THE GLOOMY DEAN.

KNIGHTED BY THE KING.

NO TITLE OR ACCOLADE.

United Press Assn. —Eire. Tel. —Copyright

LONDON, June 29

Although a knighthood has been conferred on Dean Inge, he will not receive the title of Sir or an accolade from the King, church tradition being against a cleric assuming a title of knighthood, although other titles are permissible. In his seventieth year, the “ Gloomy Dean” is not likely to lament the ban, as he is too deeply engaged in a fierce controversy on. the phases of modern life. Although he will never be “sir,” he will remain a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
