VALEDICTORY.

MR F. W. WALTERS. FAREWELLED BY COUNCILLORS.

At the conclusion of the Piako County Council meeting on Monday the chairman, Cr. WL R. Lowry, took the opportunity of wishing farewell to Cr. F. W. Walters, who is leaving for Western Australia this month. Mr Walters, he said, had been in the district about 20 years, and as a resident of Springdale and county member for the Waitoa riding, had for many years done very valuable work. He had been thorough in his work on the county, and the result to-day was. that the whole riding was splendidly roaded. His place -in the district would be difficult to fill, for in any movement for the progress of the district he had been most energetic and untiring. Crs. McLean, Stark, Emett, Stewart, Kennedy, Mr N. J. Ray (clerk), and representatives of the Press endorsed the remarks of the chairman. In replying, Cr. Walters said for any work lie had done for the district he was amply repaid that day. The work of one man in a district was not everything, and he was grateful to say that his ratepayers had backed him up splendidly in any movements made for general betterment. The health of Cr. and Mrs Walters and family was toasted enthusiastically.
