GIFT EVENINGS.

for bride-to-be. Mr and Mrs 8.. Branch of Claudelands, gave a kitchen evening at Claudelands, to Miss R. Shaw and Mr p. Melnally, to celebrate their approaching marriage. -■■■; About 70 guests spent a merry time in dancing, competitions, vocal and elocutionary items. After supper the presents which were numerous and useful were displayed in the centre .of. the hall and were much .admired. Mr Melnally, on behalf of himself and the bride-to-be, thanked the numerous donors. At midnight three hearty cheers were given for the host and hostess, and the singing of Auld Lank. Syne brought to a close a most enjoyable evening.

The ‘winners of the competitions were:—Monte Carlo, Mrs Mclnally and Mr Fraser; musical arms, Mrs Frew and Mr Armisldu; spot waltz, Mrs Holtfoy and Mr Villis. Songs were rendered by Mr B. Branch, 'Mr Prentice, and Mr R. BlaGkie; elocutionary items, Mr B. Peace; music and accompaniments, Mesdames Green, Lake, Fisher, Miss Nicliol and Messrs W. Ruck and A. West.

Among those present were:—Mesdames B. Branch, Shaw, Mclnally. Partis, W. Hayes, M. Fremlin, V Morley, A. Roley, ML Green, M. Warren, Holtby, Hedges, Gardiner, Fisher, Harris, Hodgson, Prentice, Morgan, Misses. Shaw (3), Bates '(2), Green (2), E. Hayes, M. Ormiston, Page, White, Nichols, J. Harris, S. Warren, E. Mclnally, Villis (Whakatane).

A MORRINSVILLE FUNCTION. Miss Mary Dixon, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Dixon, of Campbell’s Roau, Morrinsville, whons to be married in the near future, was tendered a china evening by Mr and Mrs J. Steel and friends at Mr Steel’s residence .on Saturday evening. Miss Dixon was the recipient of many nice and useful presents. Best wishes to the young couple were proposed by one of the old settlers and.were responded by Mr T. Goble of Morrinsville. (Miss Dixon’s fiance).
