TWO FORESTRY SCHOOLS NO NEED FOR DUPLICATION. OTHER IMPORTANT DISCUSSIONS. (By Telegraph.— l’ress Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The University Senate resolved that there was no need in New Zealand for two forestry schools, and the Academic Board was instructed to prepare a report as to the best means of overcoming duplication. The question whether there should be any differentiation between students who attend University lectures and those who, by reason of residence in country districts, are debarred from doing so, was discussed by the Senate, which decided that under present conditions there should he no alteration in the regulations in regard to the examination of students. The Academic Board recommended that students who did not attend lectures should not be qualified to proceed to University degrees. The general opinion was expressed by members of -the Senate that this would be too radical a move under existing conditions. It was pointed out that Universities were*. not residential, and if the Academic Board’s proposal, was carried there were many students in country districts who were forced to earn their living who would he debarred the advantages of University education. ’ The Academic Board’s recommendation was negatived on the voices.
