A survey of part of the route of the proposed Paeroa-Pokeno railway, referred to in a recent statement by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. B. A. Ransom, is being conducted by the Public Works Department and will shortly be completed. The entire route has been previously surveyed, but the section now being investigated is a proposed detour in the vicinity of Kerepcchi. A full report on the project is to be prepared, and a statement concerning the Government’s intentions will 1 probably be made in the near future.

.With the object of furthering the policy of the New Zealand Land Settlement League, a delegation consisting of the chairman, Mr W. J. Holdsworth, Mr N. G. Gribble and Mr R. Glover-Clark made a lour of North Island centres last week, returning to Auckland on Saturday evening. The delegates expressed great pleasure at the results of the tour. Other centres have yet to he visited and at the conclusion of the Dominion tour the delegates hope to make a public announcement at a meeting in Auckland.

The seventh annual report of the directors of New Zealand Perpetual Forests, Limited, for the year ended March 31, 1930, states that the profit for the year, after making ample provision for depreciation and maintenance of forests, is £18,873 18s 4d, an increase of £823 14s 3d. After adding the amount brought forward from last year, transferring £SOOO to special reserve and making due provision lor income tax, the balance available for divilend amounts to £20,069 13s Od. Out of this the directors recommend the payment of a dividend for the year at the rate of 8 per cent., absorbing £14,738 18s 3d, leaving to carry forward £5930 15s Id.
