<*- A RUSSIAN’S REQUEST. DESIRE FOR INFORMATION. A thrist for information that is beyond the ability of the average beekeeper to satisfy is shown in a letter received by the secretary of the South Auckland Beekeepers’ Association, Mr A. H. Davis. The letter is from a resident of Kharkof, Russia, and although not quite gramatical, it is quite understandable, and apparently was written .by an educated man. It reads as follows: “Gentlemen. —Kindly send me detailed information re beekeeping in your province, the North Island, and the orange (citrus fruits), beets, and re your homey flora, shrubs, plants, trees for ornamental planting, hedges, windbreaks, shelter belts, economical uses, etc., (also wild flora), yielding nectar and pollen. Please mark out which of them are reliable sources; what are their ■ economical values, uses, verancular and scientific (Latin) names; time and duration of blooming; the possible yields per colony (of honey). Have you any large beekeepers there? Please send addresses of some of your beekeepers and of seeds and nurseryymen. If possible also their catalogues and sample copies of your various journals on farming, gardening, horticulture, etc. When arc your main honey flows? What is the method of hive management and climatological data?—Thanking you beforehand for your kind news, I am, gentlemen, yours very truly, Alexander A. Ookskay, 3 Nicholas Place, Kharkof, Oorrhinah, Russia.” The letter was received at the annual meeting of the South Auckland Beekeepers’ Association, when the secretary remarked that it was beyond him to supply all the information asked, unless he understook it as a winter occupation. It was decided to forward the letter to one of the Government departments.
