That very flourishing- body, the Society of Women Engineers of Great Britain, gave a tea party at which were such interesting people as Miss Jeans, who is doing research work on motorcar gears—every motorist in the United Kingdom ought to give the work a blessing—Mrs Shaw Scott, who is a metallurgist, and Mrs Matthews, who is the head of a tool department in a big store. The Polytechnic has started a course of simplified engineering for women who are secretaries to engineers, caterers where machines are employed, laundry proprietors, and housewives with a mechanical turn of mind.
