HERD-TESTING WORK.
ALTERING SUBSIDY BASIS. COMMITTEEMEN’S DESIRES. During the last week four meetings af committeemen of the New Zealand Herd-Tosting Association have been held at Hamilton, Te Awamutu, Matamata and Pukekohe respectively. At each meeting a resolution was carried that it be a recommendation to the central executive of the Dominion Group Herd-Testing Federation that in future any Government subsidy granted for herd testing be retained by the herd-testing associations for general development work, instead of being returned to individual members of associations as at present. The subsidy for the 1928-29 season, amounting to £3407 18s 3d, was returned to members last November. The resolution carried by the committeemen, if given effect to, would not operate for the 1929-30 season as the New Zealand Association is pledged to return the subsidy to members this season. The total grant to all herdtesting associations made by the central executive this season will be £10,500. the same as last year. Owing to the increased number of cow's under test this season the subsidy payment per cow wall be reduced from lid to not more than 9id.
