The Chamber of Commerce’s Australian and New Zealand Committee discussing the financial situation examined a suggestion that the present policy sometimes operated inequitably and whether an injustice was being done to New Zealand which had a favourable trade balance of £7,000,000. The committee expressed the opinion that as some of the banks were working in both countries it would be difficult to earmark funds for purely New Zealand business. The fact that some banks commanded a larger trade in produce to some extent answered the complaints that some traders were more equitably served Nevertheless it is impossible to sav" whether the banks could avoid discrimination if it existed. The committee would continue to watch developments'.
