RETRENCHMENT SCHEME. SECRET BALLOT TAKEN. REBUFF FOR UNION EXECUTIVE. (Received April 16, 9.20 a.m.) A secret ballot among the branches of the Australian Railways Union shows that about 8000 men are willing to accept less pay rather than dismissal. This revolt against the domination of politicians and Railways’ Union State Council is a serious rebuff to the union, which had stated H had decided to reject all Mr Cleary’s plans to save the railwayman from dismissal.
