COMMISSIONER’S PROPOSALS. REJECTED BY THE UNION. WIDESPREAD DISMISSALS. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel.—Copyright. (Received April 14, 9.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 14. 'The officials of the Australian Railways Union have rejected the suggestion of Mr. Cleary, the Railway Commissioner, for economic reforms in the service. As a result there will be widespread dismissals from the service commencing to-day. The Premier, Mr. T. R. Bavin, in making the announcement that the union had refused to consent, to the rationing of employment coincident with the return to 48 hours, said the only alternative was dismissals. It, is estimated that 5000 tramway and railwaymen will lose their positions within the next few months.
