SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. FATALITY NEAR RACECOURSE. Norman Stephen Bradley, 25 years, who sustained serious injuries when he was knocked down by a car near the entrance to the Te Rapa racecourse about noon on Saturday died early yesterday morning. An inquest will be opened to-night, A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. HAMILTON MOTORIST’S MISHAP. ROAD CRUMBLES AWAY. To be proceeding along a road which suddenly crumbled away and precipitated his car into a swamp, ten feet below, where it came to rest partly upside down, was the experience of a Hamilton solicitor, Air W. H Adams. The accident occurred on the main Te Aroha-Paeroa highway, where it crosses the Mangaiti swamp- Mr Adams was driving his big car along the road, when he was met by another car, at a narrow part of the road, necessitating him pulling over to the edge in order to pass. Suddenly, without warning, the edge of the road, which has been built up from the swamp, crumbled, and the car plunged into the soft mud and water some ten feet below. Almost miraculously Mr Adams, and Mr T. 11. Wylie, of Morrinsville, the other oc-cupant of the car, escaped without injury, and soon scrambled back to the road. The car was practically undamaged, except for shattered glass on one side, and, when it had been pulled on to the road by a wrecking gang it was abla to proceed under its own power.

CAR OVER A BANKMAN AND WIFE KILLED. WELINGTON, Sunday. Two people, a man and his wife, were killed as a result of their motor car plunging over a bank in the Ngahauranga Gorge this afternoon. Their two children/ who were also in the car, escaped uninjured. The victims are: —• IVIf Norman John Cook, grocer, of Johnsonville, driver of the car. Mrs Cook, wife of the driver. ■The accident occurred after a glancing collision with a flve-seater sedan driven by Mr Alfred Edward Storey. A collision occurred, and Mr Cook’s car, which struck the other vehicle at the rear of the front mudguard, plunged over the bank into a stream. MOTOR ACCIDENTS. CYCLE AND TAXI COLLIDE. Very serious injuries were received by Mr Robert James White, of Ponsonby, when his motor-cycle crashed into a taxi-cab belonging to the Chess Company, Ltd., this evening. The motor-cyclist was found to be suffering from concussion, cuts on the face and hands, severe bruises, and a fractured right wrist. CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE. THREE SENT TO HOSPITAL. PALMERSTON N., Sunday. A serious motor accident occurred at Mount Stewart last evening, when Mr Archie Hickey, on a motor cycle, and a car containing a party of five footballers, driven by Mr Joseph Evans, collided. Mr Hickey sustained a fractured jaw and broken leg. Mr Evans had one arm broken. Mr Phillip Gerald Fitzgerald is suffering from shock. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. COLLISION WITH A CAR. Raymond Hurrell, aged 18, died thif ' morning in King Street Hospital as j result of injuries received yesterday, said to be the result of a collision between the motor cycle he was riding and a motor car. SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT. MAN DIES IN HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. Robert Collander, aged 55, farmer, of East Taieri, who was admitted to the hospital on Friday with a fractured skull caused by being knocked down by a motor, died yesterday. The inquest was adjourned for a post mortem.
