WAIKATO RACING CLUB.

THE AUTUMN MEETING. OORINAX AND VALI THE DOUBLEONLY ONE FIRST FAVOURITE WINS. The Waikato Racing Club experienced very successful results on the first day of its Autumn meeting, which was held at its course at Te Rapa on Saturday. Although there was a keen breeze blowing, the weather was otherwise ideal. There was a big attendance of the public from all parts of the province, the gate receipts showing a good increase over the returns for the first day of last season's Autumn fixture. Fields were big and of good quality, and the standard of the racing was high. Corinax was the winner of the Storey Memorial Cup, while Vali took the sprint honours in the President’s Handicap. There was only one actual first favourite to succeed during the day, and some useful although not excessive prices were returned by winners. The Maiden Stakes, which was run in two divisions, saw the Taranakiowned Royal Finance (with whom Miss Albyn was coupled) won the first division from Peruse and Etehi Rangi, with Day Guide fourth. The winner was third favourite. In the second division, the favourite, .Biddy Comet, scored comfortably with a big outsider in Sister White a neck in front of Sweet Whisper, and Land Measure at the head of the rest. Glenstar, who was sixth favourite, scored a ready win in the Frankton Handicap Hurdles, in which Grand Arch and Glena Bay filled the minor places and Temperature was fourth. A field of twenty two-year-olds in the Juvenile Handicap was led home by the locally-trained King Ford, who was at a neat double-figure price. Karangapai and Wild Tune were in that order of the rest, with Rafflight fourth.

The Leading Event. The Storey Memorial Cup Handicap, the leading event of the meeting, at--tracted fourteen middle-distance performers: The verdict in a fine race went to the Auckland-owned Corinax, who beat In the Shade by a neck. Prince of Orange was a close third, and Eager Rose in fourth place. Eleven hacks went to the post for the Linley Handicap. Page Boy beat Te Hoia by a neck, with Ivlotere third arid Spring Abbey the handiest of- the others. The only first favourite and the best supported candidate of the day in Pompeius answered requirements over a big field in the Puketa'ha Highweight Handicap, at the close of which Standfast and Value were next in order and Lunette fourth. i The Sprint Event of the Card. The sprint event of the card, the President’s Handicap, brought out 16 for the six-furlong trip. Vali, who was at double figures, finished too strongly for his rivals. Lady Quex and Gold Money filled the minor places and Prince Val was fourth. The day's racing was concluded with the Beerescourt Hack Handicap, in which there were 14 runners. In a keen finish, On Top prevailed narrowly over Volimond, with Snow Prince third and Valreina the next to pass the judge’s box. PUKETAHA HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP First £lO5, second £3O, third £ls.
