BEWARE OIL MARKS.
A very excellent “safty first’’ idea, When machining delicate materials on a sewing machine, is to make a cover to go right over the table part of the machine. Tilts ensures perfect safety from oil or other marks, and keeps the material spotless. The cover is quite an inexpensive affair to make; all you require is a vard of unbleached calico.
Cut Iho pattern out in paper of the exact size of the table, marking out the places, such as the foot-presser, etc., where it will have to fit. Now cut the calico and machine it neatly round all the cut-out pieces, then make little tabs, to which sew some patent fasteners so that, it can be secured firmly at each end. Never make it too large, as it will ruck when you are working; it should fit firmly all over. When not needed, this can be slipped off in a minute, and, if required, it can be easily washed; hut it will certainly prove a boon and a blessing when fine work has to be done.
