FUNERAL OF THE VICTIMS. CORTEGE OVER A MILE LONG. . (By Telegrapn.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Tuesday. The funeral of live of the victims of the Hikurangi level-crossing accident, Miss Irene Darwen, and the four young men, James Rothwell, Gavin Davidson, Sydney Johnson, and Andrew Frew, took place from Hikurangi to-day. Flags were at halfmast, all shops were closed, and no work was done- The main street of the township was lined with residents as the procession passed. The cortege was over a mile long, and included more than 100 motor cars, and 15 buses and lorries. The services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Drake, vicar of Hikurangi, and Rev. T. 11. Burton, Presbyterian minister at Hikurangi. The condition of the boy Philip Sparks, aged 15, was reported last evening to be unchanged.
