DOMINION FIGURES. SOME PECULIAR OCCUPATIONS. The latest Government figures for industrial and occupational distribution of the Dominion population show that there are a number of females employed at works not usually associated with women. „ The statistics show that one woman was a trawler hand, two were mut-ton-birders, two teamsters, six kauri gum diggers, one ink maker, three electricians, six fitters, seven metal machinists, three sheet metal workers, five motor mechanics, one motor body maker, eleven harness makers, one sausage maker, one bottle washer, one tea taster, one clerk of works, two painters, five chauffeurs, four taxi drivers, eight lorry and bus drivers, three messengers, one st"ck and station agent, two buyers of live stock, one veterinary surgeon, eight architects, four lawyers, one entomologist, one annotator, and six manglers. In all, 057,9 Ui women in the Dominion are wage earners.

Under the heading of “Persons not actively employed in gainful occupations” come 140 woman convicts. The returns show as well some uncommon occupations for men, such as four whip makers, eight tripe dressers, two charcoal burners, eleven artificial limb makers, four toy makers, eleven cabin and brass boys, one poet, two composers, two annotators, five organ grinders, eleven matrons (not of hospitals), three bootblacks, seven bill stickers, 44 bottle gatherers and twelve _ who term themselves “experts” without explaining what in or at.
