The by-election for the Christchurch CiLy Council, caused by the death of .Mr P. YV. Sharpe (Labour), resulted as follows :—Mr C. E. .I ones (Citizens’ Association). 11,924 votes; Mr 11. T. Armstrong. M.P. (Labour), 8690 votes. The polling was unprecendentedly heavy for a by-election. The result of the election will transfer the balance of power from the i-AbQur Pai’tv to the Citizens’ Party.
