DISTRICT HAPPENINGS.

(Our Resident Representative.) Touring Farmers. Several district farmers propose to join the party here for a tour of the Southland province, which will commence on May 13. The cost from Otorohanga, including side-trips and accommodation, is £l9, and it is expected by the promoters (the New Zealand Farmers’ Union) that at least 200 farmers will join the party. The Railway Department have arranged to run a train from Auckland to Wellington and from Lyttelton to Invercargill in connection with the tour. Town Board lyieeting. At a special meeting of the Otorohanga Town Board Mr W. Townsend was re-appointed working foreman. It was decided to have the main street scarified and put in good condition for winter traffic. Town Band. The Otorohanga Town Band is about to effect a complete reorganisation, and it has been decided to make a cash offer for the instruments of the Kihikihi Bamd. Mr A. Wilson-Smith has presented a gold medal to be annexed by the junior player who attends the most practices during the year. Mr A. Nicholson is presenting a trophy to the senior bandsman who, in the bandmaster’s opinion, renders the best service during the next year. The bandmaster, Mr C. F. Sass, reports that the / junior members are making excellent progress. Personal. Mr and Mrs Graham Old were farewelled by a large party of friends. An enjoyable time was spent. Mr Old has accepted a position aJf manager of a large block of sheep and cattle country in tiio Te Rau Mauku district. Mr and Mrs Vernon Slagg and, other members of the old Operatic Society (now disbanded) entertained Mr W. Nelson to a farewell evening prior to Mr Nelson’s tour of the Homeland. The departing guest .was the recipient of a valued memento of his connection with the Operatic Society. The Weather. •Mild and pleasant autumn weather still obtains during daylight hours,'with a tendency to colder conditions at night. There is still a generous pasture growth everywhere.
