Kubelik to Give 150 Recitals. ■ Kubelik, the great violinist, will tour Australia and New Zealand, giving no fewer than 150 recitals —the largest number ever undertaken by a great artist in this part of the world. Gifted Violinist Coming. Following his successful concerts at Auckland. John Dunn, (he celebrated English violinist, is undertaking a tour of the Dominion, and will come to Hamilton on April 5. He will then set, out on an extensive tour of Australia. South Africa, England and the United Stales.
At the early age of 12 years Mr Dunn showed such promise that he was enrolled as a student at the Royal
Conservatorium at Leipzig, where ,hc studied under Henry Schradieck, famous for his technique. After gaining the prize for the highest distinction and merit lie returned to England, and when only in his sixteenth year achieved a great success at one of the famous promenade concerts, following* this up with a successful tour of the most important English cities and re-engagements at the promenade concerts. Since then he has gained recognition as a very gifted violinist. Mr Dunn recently toured*. Soutli Africa, where he had a number of verisuccessful engagements. Organ Recital. The second recital of the series will be given by Mr E. 11. Apthorp in St. Andrew’s Church, Claudelands, on Saturday evening, April 5. A special feature of this recital will be excerpts from Bizet’s immortal opera, “Carmen.” Other popular items will be Rachmaninoff’s Prelude, Boccherini’s Minuet, and Braga’s Serenata, while the classical side of the programme will be represented by Mendelssohn’s First Organ Sonata (Boellmann), and Tschaikovsky’s Pathetic Symphony. The vocalists will be Mrs A. Lonsdale and Mr K. P. Fade.
