MOTHERS’ UNION
ST. PETER’S CATHEDRAL BRANCH
The Cathedral branch of the Mothers’ Union, in accordance with world-wide custom began the festival Day of the Mothers’ Union (March 25) with a corporate Communion for members in the Cathedral. The service was taken by- the \ cry Reverend the Dean, who also gave a brief but heart-searching and helpful address on the "Force and Effect of Example,’ and stressed the importance of early confirmation of children. In tlie afternoon the president (Mrs Barnett), assisted by the committee — Mesdames Peterson (lion, secretary), Tompkins, Money, Slace, Gifford, Manning, Clark and King—entertained members in the Deanery garden. The day was beautifully fine and ideal conditions prevailed in the secluded nook chosen in the grounds. With an Intel - eslitig address, delicious afternoon tea, a few good gramophone records, and “chatter,” members spent quite an enjoyable time. The visiting Diocesan president was introduced in a few happy- words by the Dean, and her excellent address to women was tostened to with keen attention, and intelligent comment and discusison followed. , , .. Mrs Barnett, on behalf of the Cathedral branch, briefly thanked the speaker, and it was arranged t- ha t J-he regular meetings this winter be held on the first Tuesday in eac-h month, at 2.30 p.m. at, the Cathedral, promptly. Members are asked to note this. The excellent attendances at the morning service and at the afternoon function arc very encouraging signs of interest and progress.
