A SERIOUS CASE.
FAILED TO CLEAR RAGWORT. DALMATIAN BEFORE COURT. Failure to remove ragwort from his property at Eureka was responsible for the appearance of A. Sorrich, a Dalmatian, before Mr F. W. Platts, C.M.G., S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this morning. Sorrich was fined 40s, with costs. The noxious weeds inspector described the case as one of the most serious to come under his notice. The weed was growing right up to defendant’s back door. He had served several notices on defendant, who had told him that he had no intention of doing anything in the matter. The surrounding land of defendants neighbours was free of the weed, and his action was not fair to them. Defendant explained at length that a difference between a neighbour and himself had influenced him in the stand he had taken. When negotiations, which were under way, were settled, he would take steps to clear his property. ■I-lis Worship pointed out to defendant. that any private dispute he might have was no excuse for not keeping his property clear _ol the weed Taking the circumstances into ■consideration, however, he would treat defendant leniently on this occasion but warned him that if he came before the Court for a similar offence again he would take a more serious view of the matter.
