Ilsley (Liberal, Ontario), look part in the " debate on the Progressive’s Party’s motion to abrogate the Australian treaty and the conservative amendment to revise it. Air Ilsley declared that the agreement had proved to be in the best interests of both countries, and should he maintained as at present. The debate was marked by assertions from the Progressive and Agricultural Parties’ benches that there was a definite trend among farmers in favour of protection. Mr T. W. Bird (Progressive) warned the Government that if it desired to retain the support of the Agricultural Party it must protect agriculture and assist in reducing the cost of production of farm products.
