The American Federation of Labour, in an estimate based upon its trades unions’ reports, slates that the first decrease in unemployment since August, 1921), is now shown. The unions in 21 eilies report that 21 per cent, of their members are oui of work compared with 22 per cent, in February. The president of the federation, Mr William Green, says these figures show that the rising tide of unemployment has been checked, but the improvement is not yet general. Only 10 of the unions who had reported showed a decrease in unemployment. In 10 other cities unemployment was still increasing in March and in the remaining four there was no change. The greatest improvement is in the sea-faring trades. The unemployment ■of musicians lias increased.
