DAIRY PRODUCE BOARD.

OBJECTION TO PERSONNEL. RESOLUTION BY FARMERS. WELLINGTON, Thursday. Objection to the personnel of the Dairy Produce Board was expressed at the meeLing of the executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, and the following remit was carried“ That the personnel of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board consist of dairy producers’ representatives only, and that the salaries and fees paid be considerably reduced.” In moving the remit, Mr N. Campbell said the board was costing too much. They were not suggesting any reduction in the levy, but were suggesting that the levy could be spent in a better manner. The present body was not functioning in the best interests of the producers. He was satisfied that if the board shipped only from the main ports instead of from the minor ports as well it would be able to reduce the freights very considerably. The producers of the country did not want to do away with control, but they wanted to ensure that level-headed men were appointed to the board. There was no need for Government representatives on the board. The chairman, Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., said he welcomed the remit. He was in favour of one hoard doing the work which was being carried out by two hoards at present. Mr W. A. lorns, of the Dairy Board, had gone Home to arrange shipping contracts, and he had been followed a few days later by Mr’ D. .Tones, of the Meat Board,, o fn exactly the same mission. Mr H. M. Rushworth, M.P., said the Government bad agreed to finance ihe Meat Board in a certain eventuality, and that was why Ihe Government insisted on being represenle 1. The same thing did not apply to the Dairy Board, however. Mr O- P. Lynch said the Manawat.u district was heartily tired of (he ■conditions as they existed at present.
