DANGEROUS ENTRANCE
MENACE TO CHILDREN. POSITION AT TE PAHU. MINISTER PROMISES RELIEF. (Special Reporter.) TE PAHU, Friday. The entrance to the school at Te Pahu leads at right angles on to the main road. The view of this entrance is obscured to motorists, while oncoming traffic cannot be seen by children rushing from school owing to two high banks blocking the view. Tlic Minister of Public Works, Hon. E. A. Ransom, stopped at the school on his journey t.o Raglan this morning, when the danger to the lives of the children was emphasised by Mr W. Lee Martin, M.P., and members of a large deputation of parents. The Minister was asked for a grant to widen the cutting and remove the banks. Mr H. J. Corean, riding member, estimated the cost of making the cutting safe at £2OO. Realised the Danger. The Minister said he realised immediately he arrived the danger ,'that existed in the cutting. lie was surprised there had not been accidents before this and he was also surprised that l the county had not remedied conditions. He thought so urgent a matter should not be delayed and promised to grant a subsidy of 30s in the £ t to have the approaches improved. It was explained that shortage of riding funds had prevented the work from being carried out before. The Minister addressed the school children later, and a half-holiday was granted them.
