Gandhi, the Nationalist leader, is finding the villagers apathetic toward his disobedience campaign. When lie and his 78 volunteers started on their second day’s trek there was no one present to give them a send-off. The appeal made by Gandhi for volunteers fell flat and lie gained only one recruit. Hitherto the Government had no intention of hindering Gandhi’s progress to Jalalpore, but now it has made arrangements for the preservation of order along his route by posting military forces in places which arc considered lo he dangerous.
