A serious fire in Messrs Lewis and Company’s three-storey building causeA damage estimated at £ 10,000. A sinister feature in connection with the outnreak was that when Ihe firemen attempted to use the hydrants in the building they were found io he turned off, and fire-proof steel doors were wide .open, allowing the draught to fan the flames.
