ADDINGTON MARKETS. LATEST RATES. | At the Addington market on Wednesday, beef values recovered from Hie fall of last week. The prices for steers advanced by £1 to £1 10s a head, and cows and heifers by £1 to £1 5s a head. The only other notable features were slight casings in both the store lamb and fat lamb sections. Fat sheep sold very firmly at slightly advanced rales. Store Lambs.—The entry was a tittle lighter. There was a good sale, but values were easier on an average by is to Is Gd a bead. Values were: Best rape lambs, to 22s Gd; good rape, 20s to 21s Gd; medium rape, IGs to 19s; backward wethers, IJs lo 15s: cull and smajl lambs, to 9's; best mixed sex, to 21s; medium lo good mixed sex, 15s to ,19s; ordinary mixed sex, 9s to 12s -Gd; good crossbred ewes, to 20s; medium quarter-bred ewes, to 17s 4d. Store Sheep-—There was a very heavy entry, including sheep from Nelson, Chatham Islands, the West Coast and North Island. The sale was a little dragging for anything but best quality, but values remained practically on a par with those of last week. Values were: Extra good four-tooth Romney ewes, to 35s Gd: good twotooth Romney ewes, 30s to 31s; good lour, six and eight tooth Romney ewes. 2Gs to 28s Gd; ordinary four, six and eight tooth Romney ewes, 22s 3d to 24s Gd; good sound-mouthed Romney ewes, to 245; ordinary sound-mouthed Romney ewes,-17s to 19s; good twotooth half-bred ewes, 27s to 30s; medium two-tooth half-bred ewes, 25s to 26s Gd; ordinary two-tootli half-bred ewes, 23s to 24s Gd; ordinary four, six and eight tooth half-bred ewes, 19s to 225; backward four, six and eight tooth half-bred ewes, 13s to 17s; sound-mouthed half-bred ewes, 16s to 18s; good two-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes, to 30s; ordinary six and eight tooth three-quarter-bred ewes, to 22s Gd; ordinary two-tooth crossbred ewes, to 255; medium six and eight tooth crossbred ewes, to 24s Gd; good sound-mouthed crossbred ewes, 19s lo 20s; good four-tooth Romney wethers, 23s Gd to 265; ordinary two-tooth half-bred wethers, to 19s; good sound-mouthed half-bred wethers, to 20s. 1-at Lambs.—There was an entry of 2920 head. Prices were easier by is a head, the average price per tb being 8d to BJd. Values were: Show lambs, to 34s 4d; extra prime lambs, to 31s 7d; prime lambs, 2Gs lo 295; medium' lambs, 23s to 255; light lambs, 19s lo 22s Gd. Fat Sheep.—An entry of 10 races was yarded, and the quality was good over an irregular sale. Prices*were. Arm at last .week’s rates, with firming of Is a head in the case of ewes, and better-class wethers. Values were: Extra prime wethers, to 36s lOd; prime wethers, 3is to 335; medium wethers, 27s to 295; light wethers, 21s Gd to 265; extra prime ewes, to 30s 7d;,prime ewes, 22s Gd to 255; medium ewes, 19s to 225; light and aged, 14s Gd to 18s. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 35G head, as compared with 490 head last week. The quality was mixed. As a result of the short supply prices increased by £1 to £1 10s a head for steers, and by £1 to £1 5s a head l'or cows and heifers. Best medium-weight prime beef made from 4is Gd lo 45s per 1001 b; medium-weight, from 37s to 40s Gd; heavy steers, from 36s Gd to 39s Gd; good cows, to 37s Gd. Values were:—Extra heavy prime steers, to £2l 12s Gd; heavy prime steers, £l7 to £l9 10s; medium-weight prime slcers, £l4 las lo £l7 10s; ordinary steers, £ll 10s to £l4 ss; light steers, £9 10s to £11; extra prime heifers, to £l6 12s Gd; prime heifers, £l2 to £l4 ss; ordinary heifers, £9 10s to £ll 15s; light heifers, £7 5s to £9; extra prime cows, to £IG 17s Gd; prime cows, £l2 to £l3 10s; medium cows, £9 to £ll ss; light and aged, £6 15s to £8 10s. Vealers.—The entry of vealers was smaller than last week, with calves in short supply. Butchers’ sorts sold at prices equal to late rates. The top price was £ll. Dairy Cattle.—There was an entry of 75 head, compared with 45 last' week. The quality was good and values showed an increase in la ;(•’ rates. They were:—Best second and third calvers, to £l7; good, £l4? to £l3 10s; others, £7 10s to £l3; best heifers, lo £l6; good, £l2 10. £l4; medium, £lO to £11; others, £9 to £9 15s. Store Cattle.—The yarding of store cattle was the biggest for some time, there being a large proportion of steers. One big line was sent down from St. James’ Station, Ilarnner, and attracted much attention. They were well-bred Hereford steers, ranging in age from two to four years, and the 90 of them sold at from £9 is to £l2 ISs Gd. A line of 18-months’ heifers brought £5 ss, ancl mixed calves sold at from 54s to 595. A line of 19 ISmonths’ steers fetched £5 15s. Potting bulls were in good demand and sold as high as £l6 14s. Fat Pigs.—A large yarding of pork'ers and only a medium entry of baconers. Pork sold well up to last week's rates, with bacon a little easier. Values were:—Choppers, £3 10s-to £8 13s Gd; porkers, £2 10s lo £3 12s Gd (average price per lb 9d to Old). Baconers, £4 to £6 Is Gd (average price per lb, 7ld to 81 d)). Store Pigs.—A short entry, and prices recorded a decline on last week’s sale. Large sorts were scarce. Values were:—Stores, 20s to 435; slips, 24s to 25s Gd; weaners, 16s to 245. TAUIYIARUNUI STOCK SALE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report: At Taumarunui on Tuesday there was again a heavy yarding of sheep, our entry totalling G3G7 ewes, wethers and lambs. There was a good demand for all classes of sheep, practically all lines changing hands. Quotations; Fat wethers 25s 3d to 265, four-tooth wethers 22s lo 23s lOd, two-tooth wethers 19s Gd to 23s Id, best four and five-year-old ewes 16s ■3d to 26s 2d, poor-conditioned sorts 12s Gd to 16s, best two-tooth ewes 25s 6d to 31s Gd, small two-tooth ewes 21s Gd to 255, ewe lambs 13s to 18s, wether lambs 12s to J Gs, mixedsex lambs 12s to 15s 9d, small lambs Gs 9d lo 11s, one-shear Romncv rams 21gns to 4gns, wcaner pigs 17s to 19s Gd, l'at cows £5 17s to £8 2s, 2 h year steers £7 Gs, butts £2 17s Gd to £B, mixed-sex weaners £2 9s. LONDON TALLOW SALES. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated March s:—At the tallow sales, 627 casks were offered, and 53 per cent, were sold. Prices are Is lower. Mutton: Fine, 40s: mixed- good, 365: inferior, 325. Owing to the small stocks the sales have been postponed 'intil further notice.
PIRONGIA SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report: We held a sate at Pirongia on Wednesday last, when a full yarding of cattle and sheep came forward. Alt stock sold under keen competition at most satisfactory prices. Included’ in I lie entry were several pens of choice weaner Shorthorn steers and weancr Jersey heifers, the steers making up lo £5 12s and heifers to £4 ,15s. WAINGARO STOCK SALE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company. Limited, report having held their Waingaro stdek sale yesterday, when a good yarding of cattle, mainly consisting of good quality three and lour year steers came forward, and prices remained firni at late rates. Quotations : Fat steers,. £l2 10s; good quality three and four year forward condition Shorthorn and Holstein steers, £lO 5s to £lO 16s; two and a-half to 3 year Shorthorn steers, £8 I.os .to £9 2s Gd; two and two and a-half steers, mixed colours, £5. 10s lo £8; medium fat cows, £8 to £8 :10s: store cows, £3 5s to £5 10s; bulls, potters, £5 to £G 17s Gd; heifers, running with bull, £7 to £7 'l os. WAINGARO SALE. Messrs G. W. Vercoe and Company Limited, report having held a stock sale at Waingaro yesterday when a good yarding of cattle came forward. Competition was not keen owing to very few buyers being in the market, but"with the exception of a few calves and a line of fat cows,-the whole yarding changed hands at late rates. We quote the following prices : —Forward condition two and a-half year old steers, £8 10s to £9; conditioned 18 months old steers, £5 19s to £7 18s; poorer quality IS months old steers, £5 to £5 18s; Shorthorn steer calves, £3 Is lo £3 15s; forward conditioned cows, £3 10s to £7 Gs; cows with calf, £5 10s to £7 8s; Shorthorn and Hereford cross-breeding cows, £5 10s Lo £5 :L7s Gd: in-calf Hereford heifers £5 15s; Jersey cross heifers close lo profit, £7 15s to £10; potter bulls, £5 Lo £B.
