SUNDAY EXCURSIONS.
ALL TRAINS WELL PATRONISED
FIFTY-TWO CARS LEAVE FRANKTON
Favoured with beautiful weather the special Sunday Railway excursions were well patronised by the public yesterday, no fewer than 52 carriages leaving the Frankton Junction station over the various routes.
The two specials from Auckland to Hamilton, of eight and nine cars respectively, were taken full advantage of, a large number of excursionists breaking the journey at Mercer, where a river trip claimed the attention of many picnickers. This river excursion from Mercer is steadily growing in popularity with Aucklanders. The Railway Department- is now issuing a special ticket for it in conjunction with the railway fare. A large crowd arrived in Hamilton, the lake and river bank being visited by hundreds of visitors.
The excursion to Rotorua, arranged by the United Friendly Societies of Hamilton, proved a huge success. The first train of six cars was crowded, while in the second, the main train, the fifteen cars provided ample accommodation for the big party of picnickers. The special to Rotorua from Cambridge was poorly patronised. The regular excursion to Auckland from Hamilton continues in popularity, and a large contingent of visitors from Hamilton and stations cn route arrived in Auckland. Tile nine carriages which composed the special excursion train from le Kuiti to Tauranga claimed a large quota of holiday makers, where under ideal weather conditions a pleasant day was spent on the Mount beach. Official figures from the railway authoritics show that 1,250 were carried on the three trains to Rotorua, '330 on the Te Kuiti —Tauranga run, and -'j2o on the Hamilton to Auckland trip.
