THE M.C.C. TEAM. TEST MATCH POSTPONED. STILL RAINING STEADILY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. Saturday. Up to midnight five inches of rain had fallen since 9 o’clock on Thursday morning, and as it is still raining steadily, Test cricket is out of the question again to-day. Endeavour to Extend Time. It is understood that Messrs Reese (president), Donnelly (chairman), ana Winsor (secretary) of the New Zealand Cricket Council, are strenuously endeavouring to rearrange the tour so as to play the third test on Monday, Tuesday and WednesdayMr A. A. Gilligan, captain of (he M. team, stated he could not accept the responsibility to extend the dates of the third test without reference to the M.C.C. The match, therefore, ends on Monday. Dr. Pope, of Sydney, who is travelling with the English team, has donated £IOO towards the expenses of the next New Zealand tour of England in 1931The Latest. Captains and umpires inspected the wicket and Anally decided there would be no play to-day. PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET. AUCKLAND TEAM. BADELEY SELECTED. AUCKLAND. Saturday. The following players have been selected to represent Auckland in the forthcoming Plunket Shield match at Wellington, commencing next Friday : C. F. Allcott (Grafton), A. Anthony (Parnell), S. A. R. Badeley (Hamilton), W. L. Elliott (Y.M.C.A.), W. R. Garrard (Cambridge), H. D. Gillespie (Eden), A. M. Matheson (University), 'A. W. McCoy (Parnell), J. E. Mills (Eden), G. L. Weir (Eden), A. F. Wensley (Parnell), P. E. Whitelaw (Parnell). C. G. Finlayson (Ponsonby) was not available. —Questioned regarding the omission of R. W. Rowntree, Mr N. C. Snedden, a member of the selection committee, said that he had no statement to make.
W. R. Garrard, who is well known as a wicket-keeper, has played for the University team and has also represented Auckland in that capacity. Players are requested to see the secretary of the association for details of the trip and to advise him without delay if they are not available. The team will leave Auckland by the limited express next Wednesday evening.
H. Hunt replaces W. R- Garrard as wicket-keeper in the Auckland eleven against Wellington. WELLINGTON’S TEAM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday.
