The Claudelands Bowling Club made preparations for the inter-club match with Cambridge last Saturday on a r scale in keeping with the record number of ten rinks which it was intended to play. A thunderstorm made play impossible, so the Ciaudclands Club entertained the visitors to afternoon tea in the pavilion. Opportunity was taken by the president, Mr Jas. Baillie, to refer to the departure for Victoria of Mr W. E. (Hughes, a member of the club, and in making a presentation of a case of pipes be wished the recipient “Godspeed” and prosperity in his new surroundings. Mr S. R. James (Cambridge) took the opportunity of voicing his good wishes for Mr HUghe’s’* future, and referred to him as a man who would be missed in this part of the district. HC hoped that at some future dale Mr Hughes Would return and visit old friends. Other speakers were Mr C. R. 8.. Speight and Mr T. Reynolc/s. In responding to the welcome extended to the Cambridge bowlers,'the president, Mf T. F. Richards, expressed regret that the greens were | unplayable, hut said they had been well repaid,for coming over by the hospitality extended. The club would be pleased to visit Claudelands next Saturday, when he hoped the weather would be more favourable.
