TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIPS. NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. , The semi-final stages were reached this afternoon in the Taranaki Tennis Association’s annual tournament. In the ladies’ doubles semi-final Mrs Melody (Wellington) and Miss M. Andrew (Christchurch) play the winners of Misses Lloyd (New South Wales) and Whitelaw (Auckland), and Misses D. Nicholls (Wellington) and Myers (Wanganui). In the combined doubles Miss Andrew and A. C. Stedman .(Auckland) defeated Miss Myers and M. L. Lampe (Wanganui), 4—6, 6—2, 6—4. The first-named pair plays the winners of the match between Miss Nicholls (Wellington) and T. Rhodes-Williams (Christchurch) and Miss Loyd and A. G- Wallace (Waverley). The semi-final matches in the men’s doubles are Rhodes-Williams and Dymond against V. N. Hubble and Nicholson and Stedman and Charters against Wallace and Wills.

In the semi-finals of the men’s singles Rhodes-Williams defeated Stedman, 6—2, G—4, and plays the final with Charters (Whangarei), who defeated A. M. Nicholson (Auckland), 6_4, 6—l. In the ladies’ singles semi-final Mrs Melody defeated Miss Potter, 6—2, 6 —O, and plays the final with Miss Myers, who defeated Miss Frankham, 6—2, 6—2.

The boys’ championship was won by last year’s winner, A. J. Dickie (Wav. erley), who defeated Ralfe, 6—2, 6—o.

The girls’ championship lies between 'two Stratford sisters, Joan and Jean Ward.

Semi-finals. —Misses Lloyd and Whyte defeated Misses Myers and Nicholls, 6—3, 6—o. Mixed Doubles. Semi-final. Miss Nicholls and' Rhodes-Williams defeated Miss Lloyd and Wallace, 6—l, 6 —4.
