A PHENOMENAL FALL. RAIN IN HAWKE’S BAY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Saturday. After a spell of glorious weather through the Christmas and New Year holidays, rain commenced to fall last Wednesday evening, andi up till 9 a.m. to-day the phenomenal record of 10.55 inches has been registered at Maraetotara, a coastal settlement near Cape Kidnappers. At Hastings, a few miles inland, there has been no abnormal fall, the gauges registering only 2.77 in. for the same period.
