CHILDREN DROWNED.

SAD END TO A PICNIC. MOTOR CAR IN A RIVER. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. —Copyright. SYDNEY, Jan. 7. Three children were drowned today at Jerseyville, near Kempsey, 280 miles north-east of Sydney. The victims were two daughters and a son of Mr Charles Barnes, a school teacher of Quambone. Mr and Mrs Barnes and their children were having a picnic on the beach when the mother scalded herself as she was brewing some lea. Mr Barnes placed his family in their motor car and drove rapidly away to ;scek medical aid. He lost his way and unwittingly drove into a river.

The father and mother came to the surface, but the children were trapped beneath the hood of the car and it was impossible to rescue them.
