Cameron, will leave for Ellerslie with The Hawk, Hunting Cry, Goshawk, and Merry Mint to fulfil en--1 ghgements at the Auckland meeting. Paganelll contested the Egmont Cup yesterday which was his first start at a distance beyond a mile. The Lord Quex —-Ringdove gelding was outside a place but the going was heavy and this would not suit the Te X -Rapa trained galloper. Bright Glow, the winner of the Egmont Gup yesterday, has proved a good slake earner for her Taranaki owner, Mr H. E. Clcland. The Day Comet —Bed Dolly mare has done very little racing to the present stage of the season. She will be respected from this out and it should not, be long before she is heard from a Jain at distances from a mile upwards. She will do her Christmas racing at the Manawatu meeting.

The stewards of the English Jockey Club recently fined S. Wootton £lO on each count for failing to see that one of his apprentices was not on the course after being engaged to ride two horses.

Indolent was pushing through on the rails over the concluding stages of the Orakau Hack Handicap at the Waipa meeting. He was some way from the leaders when the seven furlongs were decided, but there was a measure of his old fighting effort in the manner in which he was running the journey out. The General Latour —White Sox gelding has been right off colour this season but he gave the impression by his latest effort that he was on the improve.

The following riding engagements ■have been announced for the Auckland Racing Club's Summer meeting: A. E. Ellis, Toxeuma; L. J. Ellis, Prodice and Silverrnine; H. Wiggins, .Shrewd and Havering; B. H. Morris, Historic; T. Green, Paquito, Dunraven, and Honour; It. Reed, Star Stranger and Cylinder; H. Gray, Concentrate, Lady Quex.

Flying Prince contested the concluding event at the Waipa -Club’s meeting. The Flying King —Vanga colt was opposed by six runners in the Ohaupo Handicap for which he was made third favourite. lie began favourably but did ndt put any particular dash into his effort, finishing fourth. Flying Prince goes best when the sting is out of the ground. It was firm going on this occasion.

Fernden, who scored in the v Tokaora Hack Handicap at Hawera yesterday was formerly owned in the Matamata district by Mr J. Pohlen, and was raced in this province . After finding a new owner this year the' Australianbred gelding by Redfern—Meriden was transferred for racing in the middle and southern portions of the North Island. Fernden is a fairly speedy sort and as he is but a four-year-old he has the best of his racing ahead.

The Begum, in reaching fourth place among the sprint candidates in the Flying Handicap at the Waipa meeting, ran better than she has done for some time. The Chief Ruler —Lucell.i filly can go fast whqn at her best, but she did not get near Leitrim and Awarere, who set a merry pace, on this occasion. The Begum ran on well in the straight and, on top of the ground, an 'improved effort may arrive from her direction when next seen out.

Chide, who arrived in Sydney last week, is to join up with F. T. Cush’s team, which includes Aorangi and Eden Hall (the latter another New Zealander), who both race in the interests of the Sydney publican, Mr T. C. Trautwein. According to latest information the Paladin gelding will be given a short spell, after which he will be put into training again with a view to contesting the important autumn handicaps and weight-for-age events.

Mr T. IT. Lowry has won the Great Northern Foal Stakes on three occasions, with Soltano, Desert Gold, and Gascony, and will have the speedy Chrysology to' represent him -in this month's race. Mr A. 13. Williams has also supplied three winners of the classic in Humbug, Epitaph, and Mimetic, and the Gisborne owner lias Cylinder engaged this year.

Jov Girl, who is a member of 11. I. Spinks’ team at Paeroa,' opened her winning account at Hie Takapuna meeting. The Some Boy II —St. Louis mare was a starter in the Ohaupo Handicap at Te Aw-amulu, in which race she showed speed, although she found the class too good for tier. Joy Girl is improving with racing and when the country circuit is returned to she should be heard from in her grade.

Prince of Orange made a. good showing in finishing second to Richfield in the Orakau Handicap at the Waipa meeting. Prince of Orange put up 81bs overweight to secure the services of H. Goldfinch. There were sixteen runners and Prince of Orange had to cover extra ground to get within striking distance. /As the field levelled up for the run home he was in fifth place and finishing on strongly he got within a length of the winner, Richfield. It was a good effort and Prince of Orange is capable of improving upon it during the holiday racing. The Takanini trainer, E. Pope, has the Yalkyrian—Lassie Doon gelding in nice order.

Lunette’s engagement in the Kihikihi Handicap at the Waipa meeting was declined and the Ohaupo Handicap, also a seven furlong event, was selected for her. The Nassau—Lady Frisco mare did not make the maximum use of barrier despatch but she improved her position quickly from the middle stages of the race onwards, fighting out a .good finish with Sir Russell, who conquered her by the narrow margin of a neck. This was only the second start of the season for Lunette, she having finished third at the Waikato meeting. Lunette is a half sister, by Nassau, to White Comet, Paddon and Chang and, with tiie two latter, is in A. Tinker's team at Te Rapa.

Pompeius is proving very successful this season. In addition to winning the Pakuranga Hunt Cup Steeplechase and the Hunters’ Steeplechase at the Auckland meeting, with a third placing in the Waikato Hunt Cup at Cambridge, Ihe Lucullus—Miss Winsome gelding annexed the Maniapoto Hack Cup at To Kuiti and followed this up with a victory in the Nolan Hack Cup at Ilawcra yesterday. His wins in the two latter events indie ite that he is a particularly useful galloper on the flat in addition to his ability as a steeplechaser. The local trainer, A. P. Brady, deserves a lot of credit for the pitch he has brought this member of his team to. The best of the season is ahead for Pompeius.

At the monthly meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association the. New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club gave particulars of an inquiry it had held over an accident that had occurred at the start of the Dominion Handicap at the November meeting. It will be remembered that Young Blake and Trampfasl collided at the start of the race, and W. T. Lowe, Trampfast’s driver, was dislodged from the sulky. The evidence of W. J. Tomkinson, W. T. Lowe, A. Sutton, and A. J. Hastings was read, and it was decided that the occurrence was accidental. A further inquiry had been held by the club as a result of further information received. It was decided !o draw the attention of (he club to the effect that Tomkinson was not present at the second inquiry.

There are conflicting reports concerning Aspiring and her RailwayHandicap engagement. This paragraph appeared in the Christchurch Times on Monday: It is understood that Aspiring will be sent to Auckland for the Railway Handicap, which is her only engagement at the meeting. She has received a penalty of 51b for her two successes at Woodville, but she has only 7.5 to carry even now, and she must be given a great chance. . . .

According to advices from Brisbane, jockeys indulged in a free light at the Bundumba racecourse on November 30. The occurrence is said to have followed the decision of the West Moreton Handicap, and that before peace could be restored the assistance of the committee of tiie club, backed up by the police, was found necessary. What with its racing commission, sensational evidence, and now free lights among jockeys, Brisbane is experiencing a lively time just now.

The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club reported to Hie recent meeting of tiie New Zealand Trotting Association that A. E. Bussell had been lined £lO and cautioned for undue use of the whip on the horse Tamerlane. Bussell had swung ins whip across the course, and such use of the whip might have interfered with other horses. It was stated ttiat Bussell had been guilty of the same offence several times previously, and the association decided, in additon to the tine, that Bussell’s driver's license .he suspended for three months from the date of the offence.
