- arrest of policeman. ALLEGED THEFT AND RECEIVING ißy Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Following the discovery of a man on the premises of C. Smith, Ltd., one night recently, a startling development Is thfe arrest of a police constable, and a man who, until a short time ago was a member of the force. They are Hugh Robertson Stevenson, aged 27, and Wilfred Leonard Ramm, aged 29. The former was charged before Mr Page, S.M., with: receiving from Joseph Maurice White and Ramm olothlng valued at £l2 11s 6d knowing It to have been dishonestly obtained. He was remanded on ball of £2OO. A similar remand was granted In the case of Ramm, who was charged with breaking and entering the premises of C. Smith and stealing three pyjama coats, seven shirts, two pairs of gloves, four collars, a scarf, and nine ties, of a total value of £25The Chief Detective said that till a week ago accused was a police constable. This was only one of a series of charges In whioh he would be Involved.
