MORRINSVILLE FATALITY.

THE LATE MR FITT,

GLOOM CAST OVER TOWN

(Special to Times.)

MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday

A gloom was cast over the town yesterday when It became known that Mr J. E. Fitt, a well-known and muchrcspectcd resident of Morrinsville, had been killed at a level crossing on the Kiwilahi Road, near Morrinsville. It appears that Mr Fitt was returning home in a Ford delivery car, and as a fairly strong wind was blowing he did not hear the engine whistle, and was just crossing the line when the engine struck his van, completely smashing it, and carrying if some 50 yards. Mr Fitt was terribly cut about th'e face and head, and must have been killed instantaneously. The body was brought into the police station, and an inquest is being held to-day. The accident is made doubly distressing to Mr Fitt's many friends from the fact that his widow has been in hospital for some time, and was looking forward to joining her husband and family for Christmas. Mr Fitt, during his residence in Morrinsville, had taken a keen Interest in all sporting matters, and was a prominent member of the Hockey and Gun Clubs. Mrs Fitt and her young family have the sympathy of the whole town and district.
