HUTT BY-ELECTION
It is probable that Mr Walter Nash, the Labour representative, will succeed Hon. T. M. Wilford (late Minister of Justice and the next Commissioner for New Zealand in London) as the .new member for Hutt. Mr Nash has a lead of 156, with 60S postal votes to come. Tiie chances therefore are that the Labour Party will secure the seat. This will not cause surprise, for those who have been in close touch with the campaign have long regarded the return of Mr Nash as assured, though some were of opinion that the Reform candidate would have been closer up. as it was admitted that as a campaigner he showed much aptitude. Mr Nash is regarded as a decided acquisition to the Labour Party. He is a keen debater and a man of considerable attainments, and, if returned, will, it is believed, make his mark in politics, lo which he is not new. as his official position as secretary of the party has kept him in close association with the political affairs of the Dominion.
