MAORI PATIENTS
PAVSiEKT OF FEEB. I PALMERSTON SUPPORTS WAIKATO Approval of the Waikato Board’s attitude In respect of* the payment of Maori patients’ fees was signified by toe Palmerston North Hospital Board at its monthly meeting, when it was suggested that on application should be made to toe Native Purposes Fund in an endeavour to secure payment of a percentage of the fees. The chairman (Mr J. K. Ilornblow) stated that the funds were being administered wisely and were accumulating. He suggested that application should be made to the Minister of Native Affairs with the view lo obtaining some relief. The managing-secretary (Mr Philllpps) stated that the proportion of Maori patients’ fees received at the Otaki Hospital was 5 per cent. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., moved, and Mr G. A. Monk seconded, a resolution that a remit bo forwarded to the Hospital Boards’ Association drawing attention to the matter, with the suggestion that the application he made for a percentage oi' the fees to be paid from toe Native Purposes Fund. This was carried, and the board decided lo advise the Waikato Board of the step taken, in addition lo expressing its sympathy with the proposaL
