N.Z. APPLE TRADE.
BETTER THAN AUSTRALIAN VALUE OF ORGANISATION. SOLD ON REPUTATION. i/nlted Press Assn.—Elec. Tel.—Copy right LONDON, Dec. 17. Discussing the forward selling of Australian apples next season, Mr H. Stephens a New Zealand fruit control official, said 150,000 cases of New Zealand apples had been sold to Hamburg at 13s 6d to 14s cj.f., equivalent to at least 10s f.o.b. Tasmania Stunners were offered on the same market at 7s f.o.b. It was all a matter of organisation. New Zealand apples brought from 2s to 3s more per case than Australian because the Dominion had built up a good name and the apples were sold on description. Mr Stephens instanced the case of a German who recently secured selling orders for Australian apples on the Continent, Including 100,000 cases of Victorians, on which he was charging 6d per case to the growers and 4d to the sellers, totalling iOd of unnecessary charges. The New Zealand Control Board sold at a total cost of about Id per case.
