FROM TRACK AND STABLE

HORSES FOR TAUMARUNUI. NOTES AND COMMENTS.

(By "Martian.”)

Abbey Queen can travel fast for a few furlongs. The Quin Abbey— Miss Laius mare has a double engagement at Taumarunul to-morrow, where the distance of the Matapuna Handicap may suit her best. Biddy Comet was about the premises during her racing at Te Kuiti and Takapuna. The Day Comet — Lady Biddy mare, who is in E. Loomb’s team, is running into form and she promises to reach a dividend place before Very long. Derry Belle, who is engaged in the Trial Plate at Taumarunui to-morrow is a thrce-year-old filly by Mountain Knight—Mystical Rose. She is trained at the track she will be on to-morrow. Nothing is known of her capability but, on breeding she is entitled to some notice. Although St. Warrigal is destined for a jumping career this member of G. A. Reid’s team at Te Aroha, is possessed of a useful turn of speed. The St. Amans gelding has been working ■for some time and he will undertake his Trial Plate engagement at Taumarunui well prepared so far as condition is concerned. Bahama has yet to appear for racing this season. The Nassau chestnut is trained at Te Aroha these days by his owner. Bahama figures in the Taringamotu and Maticre Hack Handicaps to-morrow. If this memto gauge his form at present, but if near his best he would have to be considered. D<y Guide, who is an acceptor in the Taringamotu Hack Handicap tomorrow, was raced at the Waikato and Te Kuiti fixtures. The Day Comet —Lady Ellen horse has speed and as his condition has been advanced by his recent efforts he should show improvement in his efforts this week. Ruby Dawn is a speedy sort but she is not over solid just at present. The Day Comet —Ruby mare is in the Taringamotu Hack Handicap to-mor-row, where she will begin sufficiently well to afford her some prospect at six furlongs. i

Pure Tea, a three-year-old filly in the Matapuna Hack Handicap has breeding to recommend her. The descendant of Tea Tray—Duchess Eudorus, who is in C. Morse’s team at Takanini, has been shaping nicely in her recent work on the training tracks,

Measurer has had some racing and has indicated that hp can muster ..up, pace. The ing has been acquitting himself well m his recent track work at Takapuna. He is in the two minor hack events at Taumarunui and it would not surprise to find him running prominently.

Sir Burnett's is an interesting entry appearing in the 'Taumarunui Cup field. The Quin Abbey—Orphclia chestnut made his latest appearance in the Hauraki Plains Handicap at Thames in November of 1924,, in which event he finished third. He was then raced by the local trainer, M. J. Carroll, but unsoundness brought about his retirement. The chestnut is now owned and trained at Tokirima in the King Country. He is in his fourteenth year.

Rangitown, an acceptor for the Trial Plate and the Taringamotu Handicap to-morrow, is a six-year-old mare by Archiestown from Rangira. She is in J. F. Tutchen's local stable and has shown some pace in her work on the local tracks. The fact that she lacks experience in public may tell against Rangitown but she should be in the picture at some stage of the event she contests.

Awamutu’s fractiousness at the barrier is against him showing his best form in his races. The King Lupin —Queen Ripple three-year-old is an acceptor for the Matapuna Hack Handicap to-morrow and if he begins .favourably he should make matters interesting on the five furlong journey.

Snow Prince, a member of N. J. Prenter’s team at Paeroa, is a four-year-old gelding by Snow King—Gipsy Quin. Snow Prince lias had some racing of late and while he has not been capable of reaching a place, he has made reasonable showings on occasions. He is on the improve and may require consideration in his coming hack engagements,'

Tasty ran third at the Waikato Hunt meting in October ‘and was just headed for that position in her start at the Waikato Club’s .Spring fixture. The Lord Quex —Blended filly, who had a few races in Australia this year, has hardly displayed She form expected of her in her latest term of racing. She is engaged at Taumarunui, where she is at the minimum in the Taringamotu and the Matiere Handicap to-morrow. If this member of M. J. Carroll’s team has improved at all she should pay expenses on the trip.

White Ringlet, who is an acceptor for the Matapuna Hack Handicap tomorrow, shovved fair form last sea-, son, winning two races and reaching a place on three other occasions. The Some Boy II —Winning Lady mare has yet to, have a race this season. If she is paraded in forward condition to-morrow she will find some support, but may/ be seen to better advantage on the jsecond day of the coming fixture.

Red Day made her first appearance as a hurdler at Te Kuiti. The Day Comet—Ruby mare was out forcing the pace with the winner, The Lamb, for the greater part of the journey, but tired in the run home and finished ifourth. Red Day is engaged in the/ batten event at Taumarunui tomorrow and it is on the cards that she will be in the picture. She is also in the closing event, in which her prospects are not hopeless.

Nassau Lady has been a very consistent novice galloper of late. The Nassau —Principal Lady mare ran second at the Waikato meeting, was in fourth and second place in her two starts at Te Kuiti, while at the recent Takapuna. fixture she was second each day. Her turn to go one better is due and the public will be on the qui vive in the Trial Plate at Taumarunui..

Glenstar has had some racing this season, but has been off the scene of recent times as he has not been quite himself. The Day Comet gelding is down to race in the Taumarunui Cup. If he gets a dry track Glenstar should run well as he can go fast on top of the ground. Ten furlongs will be quite far enough for him, however.

Macroom has a win, a second and a third to her credit in her last four starts, which indicates that she is again striking form. The Archiestown —Lady Gwendoline mare is an acceptor for the Cup and the sprint at Taumarunui to-morrow. As the stable (M. J. Carroll’s) has Glena Bay also engaged in the leading event it is likely that Macroom will be reserved for the six furlong race in .which she will require to be seriously considered.

Partial Eclipse claims the double engagement of the Taringamotu and the Matapuna Handicaps to-morrow, being at the front of the handicap in botti with 9.0. The half-sister, by Nassau, to Awarere, reads-above the quality of her opponents and in whatever event is selected for her she should give a good account of herself.

Ohinemuri is in the Cup and the Flying Handicap on the opening day at Taumarunui. By dead-heating with The Lover for first place in the Waitomo Handicap, of nine furlongs, at Te Kuiti, (Jhinemuri showed her best form of the season to date. The increased poundage and the distance of the leading event to-morrow may trouble her at the finish and the sprint may afford her the best opportunity.

Abbess did not have a race for over twelve months until she was saddled up to contest the Awakino Hack Handicap at Te Kuiti. in running second to Valuation in that event the Quin Abbey—Curearua mare showed that she had not lost her speed. In her next start, Abbess had no chance owing to losing Loo much ground out of the barrier. Abbess has a treble engagement at Taumarunui io-moirow and the Taupiri owned galloper promises to be in favour in whatever is selected for her.

Antique, who is inelligible for the Trial Piale, but is in Hie Matapuna Hack Handicap, tomorrow, came under notice by running a dead heat for fast with a useful sort in Te Iloia in the Frankton Handicap, of seven furlongs, on the second day of the Waikato Club s meeting last month. Antique is a four-year-old gelding by Tonbridge from Unique and is in J. H. Wallace's team at Te Aroha. He should snowup in his engagements at ’taumarunui.

Marble King will be without a race this season when he lines up to congest the Flying Handicap to-morrow. : Vhe 'Ma«.hie Arch —Miss Arrians’ gelding lias not been idle, however, since he was started at the Auckland Club’s Winter meeting. .As lie goes well when fresh, Marble King should he prominent in Ihe company lie will parade with at bis next start.

Wenday’s only engagement on the opening uay at Taumarunui is in the Cup in which she has 8.1. The Day Comet —Wenonah mare tan good races in ilighweight company at Takapuna, where she finished second each day. The local candidate is approaching her best iorm again and as she can run out ten furlongs she should be very prominent over the business end of to-morrow's journey.

Glena Bay has been showing useful form of late and is fulfilling in some degree the good opinion that his owner-trainer has held of him but, owing to physical set-backs, has not been supplied to the maximum. The latest success of the Romeo —Martigues gelding was achieved in the Highweight Handicap at Takapuna on Monday in which he outstayed his field with a" strong closing run. If Glena Bay acts up to that form at Taumarunui to-morrow he will be hard to beat. He is in the Cup and also the Owhango Handicap.

When Parfait Amour finished in second place to Te Waitai in the Trial Handicap at Te Kuiti, he was giving weight to the field and, in addition, was not favoured with a good run in the early stages of the six furlongs. The Te Rapa trained hack comes in on more favourable terms in the opening event at Taumarunui tomorrow', where the Trial Plate field is at level weights and he should prove very difficult to dispose of.
