BRUTAL ASSAULT.

ATTEMPTED TO THROTTLE WIFE. ATTACKED HER WITH RAZOR. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. “This man’s wife is in absolute terror of him; last evening he became drunk and took a razor to her,’’ said Mr Singer, when a charge of being found drunk was preferred against Alfred John Sheay, aged 29. “I am told that Sheay got his wife on a bed and attempted to throttle her,” said Mr Singer. “Fortunately she got her foot free and banged on the wall, and a neighbour came in. Her husband had had a razor, and had been attacking her. She says that he has been a habitual drunkard since they were married five years ago.” “I have never assaulted my wife before," said accused. “I will never go near her again.” “I will remand him until Friday to get the drink out of him,” said the Magistrate.
