MAORI WAR VETERAN.
DEATH AT FRANKTON. EIGHTY YEARS IN N.Z. A resident of New Zealand for 80 years, Mr John Stevenson Twidle passed away at the residence of his son, Mr J. A. Twidle, of Irvine Street, Frankton, yesterday. Born in Lancashire, the late Mr Twidle came out from England with his parents, Mr and Mrs George Twidle, at the age of two. The family settled in the Mangere district. As a young man, Mr Twidle took part in the Maori War and saw a good deal of active service under Colonel Nixon. After carting and farming in trie Pukekohe district for some years he married Mary Ann Slater, daughter of Mr James Slater, of Pukekohe, about 50 years ago. He was farming near Can!bridge and in other parts of the Waikato until his retirement about 13 years ago. His wife predeceased him in 1926. There are five children — Messrs J. A. Twidle (Frankton), G. Twidle (Otahuhu) and Mesdamey J. Linstrom (Cambridge), W. McKibbin (Manunui) and J. Peters (Wellington). The funeral will leave his late home for the Hamilton West Cemetery to-morrow’ afternoon.
