Concerning Australia’s GovernorGeneral It Is unofficially mentioned that Field-Marshal Sir W- Birdwood recently agreed to the three months’ extension of his term in India till the end of November, 1930, to meet the convenience of his successor, so there would a substantial hiatus if he accepted the Australian office. Regarding the talk of a local appointee It is pointed out In high quarters that there is no likelihood of a departure from the ruling of Mr L. C. M. S. Amcry, formerly Secretary of State for the Dominions, that the appointment of Governor-General is under the Crown, to which the Commonwealth could make representations when the list of ellglbles Is being considered-

The Dominions Office dismissed as sheer speculation the revival of the old rumour that Field-Marshal Sir W. Birdwood will be the next GovernorGeneral of Australia. It is stated that the matter of Lord Stonehaven’s successor has not even been considered yet.
