The Rev. Canon J. L. A. Kayll is taking charge of the Frankton parish during the absence of 'the Bishop of Waikato in Taranaki.

Mr. H. P. Donald, of Christchurch, has been promoted to be Chief Postmaster at Auckland.

Messrs. 11. Goodwin, H. M. Marler (Auckland), G. F. Mathers (Wellington), C. 11. Burgess (New Plymouth), C. E. Clark and T. Perry (Christchurch) arc at the Hamilton Hotel.

The death lias occurred of Eruini Te Irihau, an old Maori chieftain, and a well-known figure in the Wanganui district. He was nearly 100 years old.

Mr. F. W. T. Rowley, secretary of the Labour Department, will retire on superannuation at the end of the month. Yesterday he was presented with an oak writing-case and gifts for Mrs. and Miss Rowley, on behalf of officers of the Department throughout New Zealand.

The British Prime Minister, Mr. MacDonald has appointed Mr. Patrick Duff to be his principal private secretary, in succession to Sir Robert Vansitta’rt, who has been appointed Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office.

Air. G. N. Hawken, secretary of the Karamea Dairy Company and Karamea Shipping Company, has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Dairy Union, Palmerston North, in succession to Mr. W. E. Bendall, who is retiring. Mr. Hawken arrived in New Zealand about five years ago, and has experience in law and general office work in the 101 c! Country to his credit.

The Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, Viscount Craigavon, and Viscountess Craigavon, who will spend two months in New Zealand, are passengers for New Zealand on the Aorangi which left Sydney yesterday. Also on board were Sir A. G. Murchison Fletcher, the new Governor of Fiji, and Lady Fletcher; Colonel Sir Lennon Raws, ex-president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Australia: Sir 'Charles Ballance, Consulting Surgeon to the British Army; and Sir William Noble.
